When Did The Vietnam War Start And More About It

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Considered to be one of the goriest wars to have ever been fought, the Vietnam War began in 1959. The battle is believed to have lasted for approximately sixteen years. The Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) and the Republic of Vietnam were on the two fighting sides and 30th April, 1959 was the exact date of ceasefire You might want to know when did the vietnam war start and more about it just go to web.

The reason cited behind the outbreak of this brutal war was that the Vietnamese nationalists were unable to gain complete control over southern Vietnam. Leading to many deaths among the main parties involved, there was also loss of life within the various allies.

Vietnamese communists were supported by the Peoples republic of China along with the Soviet Union (Russia). New Zealand, Thailand, United States of America, Republic of Korea, Australia and Phillipines were the nations that allied with South Vietnam. Traditional military tactics were employed by the North Vietnamese Army while it was much the opposite for South Vietnam that had the USA by its side. The main intention of the United States entering in the Vietnam War was reportedly to avert Communism. The increasing Communist spread particularly after the USSR overtook Nazi Germany, posed a threat to the U.S.

Why Did the US Enter the Vietnam War? It was their worry of expanding Communism that had USA join the Vietnam War. The US seemed to have got really worried after the capitalist South Vietnamese side were fraying out in their fight against the Communists of North Vietnam. Not wanting the latter to take over, America decided it best to offer their support to the Capitalists. The US is said to have brought their modern weapons in the battle to help the Capitalists win. With the American military asked to strike right back upon being fired, the mid sixties saw the United States completely involved in the war. The country had by then stationed approximately 543,000 combat troops in the warring nation.

After 16 long years, the two parties finally agreed to sign a peace treaty as an end to the war. It was signed by both parties in January 1973 and it requested the U.S. army to shift their base from Vietnam. Though in reality, the war went on until the 30th of April in the year 1975. After the war, Vietnam was finally reunited.
