Less may be the new-fangled more? We are beginning to peek out of the economic depressional hole and the brightness is ours for the wanting. Companies that will certainly make it through are those at this point gathering momentum and continue with the new organization mantra of the decade. We have seen that customers are demanding more value and the cost-driven designs are becoming more difficult to support without disturbing the existing business model or profit margin assumptions. Innovation tends to come from upstarts (Netflix and Southwest Air are good examples) and non-traditionals (Microsoft in the music business!). Less is the new-fangled more and business must accept a new behavior and ways to reduce their pricing to the point that customers will seriously love. They certainly need to offer designs of existing merchandise and models (yes, even elliminating unneeded features) and the most effective way to advertise and sell your products in the marketplace.
